What would you pack on a one-way mission to Mars? If you've been following Futureproof, you'll have heard the story of Dr Joseph Roche, the only Irishman to have been shortlisted to the final 100 for the audacious plan that is Mars One.

Founded by Bas Lansdorp, the organisation hopes to put four Marstronauts on the surface of the planet for the rest of their lives in 2024, just ten years from now.

The mission has its detractors for sure, and the central question to whether or not Mars One will reach the red planet has to do with the colour green. A source for funding for just the first lander mission has not yet been announced although Lockheed Martin have been contracted to prepare for the launch in just three years from now.

The clock is ticking, but meanwhile the thousands of entrants for this competition have been reduced to just 100. On this week's Futureproof, hear from Bas Lansdorp, founder of Mars One and Dr Joe Roche as they discuss viability, logistics and answering their critics.

Be sure to tune in this coming Saturday February 21st from 10am.

Find out more about the mission at Mars One.
