What sounds more like the beginning of a children’s comedy, Yonda the tiny kitten from Turkey, indeed did have a big if not long distant adventure.

The six week old kitten travelled 2,000 miles across Europe after hitching a  ride in the back of a truck from Turkey to the UK.

The feline adventurer’s cat nap turned into a nine-day international voyage – which eventually ended in Dartford, Kent, this week.

It is thought Yonda, snuck into the lorry in the Turkish capital of Ankara before unsuspectingly travelling via Istanbul to the UK.

The animal was eventually discovered by staff at freight and logistics company Davies Turner as they unloaded the vehicle.

‘Yonda has had quite a journey,’ explained Cats Protection’s Heather McCann.

‘She was apparently very timid and frightened at first, but thanks to the vigilance and kindness of everyone at Davies Turner, she is now doing well in the comfort of the Animal Inn.’

She will spend six months in quarantine at the Animal Inn, near Deal, before being transferred to an animal rescue centre in Croydon, south London.

Ms. McCann is appealing to the public to help pay for the remainder of Yonda’s quarantine fees which involves the costs in looking after her while they try and find her a new home.
