A group of water protesters may be jailed or fined this Thursday over claims they have obstructed water meter installation works in north Dublin.

GMC Sierra, the company carrying out the works, has brought attachment and committal proceedings against seven demonstrators.

GMC Sierra claims surveillance videos show protesters aggressively removing barriers, blocking vehicles, forcefully entering a work station and attempting to interfere with a water meter.

Damien O'Neill of Greenwood Pk, Coolock, Paul Moore of Mount Olive Grove, Kilbarrack, Bernie Hughes of McKelvie Avenue, Finglas, Mark Egan of Tonlegee Drive, Raheny, Richard Larkin of Mount Olive Rd, and Derek Byrne of Streamville Rd, Donaghmede were in court today.

A seventh defendant - Michael Batty of Edenmore Ave, Raheny - was not present in court, as he is abroad

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan has to decide if there is enough evidence to show that the protesters have breached court orders which provide for a 20 metre exclusion zone around the works.

He will deliver his ruling on Thursday morning.
