Black Friday is still in its infancy on this side of the Atlantic, so we must gaze westwards to see the occasion in full swing.
Across the US, thousands patiently waited outside stores for a chance at grabbing some once-in-a-year bargains on everything from televisions to toasters.
But it wouldn't be a true Black Friday celebration without some healthy competition over who gets their hands on what - and it's not always a cordial affair.
Here's some frightening examples of how bad things can get. Fights, stealing from children and interventions by store security all feature prominently.
