Two-year-old Rottweiler dog Brutus has made an incredible and heart-warming recovery after the cruelty of his previous owners left him with four amputated legs. As a four-month-old puppy, his Denver, Colorado owners left him outside in the snow so long that he suffer frost bite so severe, his owners cut off his legs and dumped him in a shopping centre car park.
While no sign of the breeders who committed these acts of cruelty has been found to date, the rescue group that found the injured pup went to work rehabilitating him, and raising $12,500 (€11,820) for necessary surgeries, physical therapy, and four new artificial limbs, made to measure.
But now, thanks to some new-age prosthetics, Brutus is back walking and running, and while it might not always be elegant, it’s given him a whole new lease of life.
His recovery has taken considerable work, and the current artificial limbs require Brutus to goose-step his way across paths and curbs.
The four prostheses were created by OrthoLimbs, specialist makers of artificial limbs for animals. Each leg weighs almost 500g, and Brutus is continuing physical therapy to learn how to live his life to the fullest.
