Facebook have released their Year in Review video for 2015 – and Ireland has made the cut.

Among clips from major global news stories such as the refugee crisis, the Black Lives Matter protests and the Paris terror attacks, sits Ireland’s passing of the marriage equality referendum – with a clip of Senator David Norris speaking to the crowd at Dublin Castle on May 23rd.

Ireland wasn't the only country to ht the headlines for marriage equality - the US Supreme Court legalised gay marriage in a landmark ruling in June - and marriage equality ranked sixth in the most discussed topics on the social network in 2015, more a part of the global online discussion that the battle against the so-called Islamic State.

The list was put together by measuring how frequently topics were discussed on Facebook between January 1 and December 1 in 2015, and after they “analyzed the past year’s conversation on Facebook to reveal the most talked-about global topics” Facebook have come up with the following top 10 list of global topics of 2015.

  2. November 13 Attacks in Paris
  3. Syrian Civil War & Refugee Crisis
  4. Nepal Earthquakes
  5. Greek Debt Crisis
  6. Marriage Equality
  7. Fight Against ISIS
  8. Charlie Hebdo Attack
  9. Baltimore Protests
  10. Charleston Shooting & Confederate Flag Debate

In Ireland, in 2015 we were mostly talking about the same-sex marriage referendum and the Syrian Civil War & refugee crisis. The UK general election was our fourth most discussed topic, while the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight in May was our second most talked about sporting story, after Steven Gerrard's move to LA Galaxy.
