TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly have been found guilty of two charges of breaching bylaws at Shannon Airport.

Both have been fined €2,000.

The two scaled a fence and entered a restricted area at Shannon Airport in July 2014. They told the court they did so to inspect a US military plane that had landed at the airport for arms or munitions.

Two pair have said they will not be paying their fines. They could face jail time if they do not pay.

"I wouldn't pay that fine to save my life," Wallace said, while Daly said: "I won't be paying any fine, absolutely not."

Speaking after the ruling, Mr Wallace told Clare Fm they will continue to protest the use of Shannon Airport by the US Military.

“Whether people like it or not, our Government are facilitating the arms industry by allowing arms and munitions through Shannon,” Mr Wallace said.

“Our Government are facilitating the US military war effort, which has no merit whatever in international law.”

Wallace told Ennis district Court, last month, that he “felt as a legislator, I had an obligation to see that Ireland was not breaking international law.”
