Residents of the French village of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux have mounted a campaign to have a 77-year-old motorist removed from the road.
TheLocal reports that the man has been involved in three fatal collisions since 1989, with the most recent just last month.
Following the latest accident his license has been suspended for six months, after which a court will decide whether or not to reinstate it.
Signatures are currently being gathered to persuade the court to permanently revoke the man’s license.
The driver, who is known for careening around country roads at high speeds, was briefly imprisoned after a crash that killed a woman in 1997. He has also been involved in a number of non-fatal accidents.
Though local suspect he may suffer from a medical condition, his son has claimed that medical examinations have given him the all-clear.
Though how the man has remained on the road so long is somewhat of a mystery, it may be no great surprise to hear that he was formerly a member of the local commission that decided on the revocation of driving licenses.
