Thousands of commuters are now able to avail of the new free-flow junction at Newlands Cross flyover which reopened this morning.
Motorists leaving Dublin from the south and west, as well as a large number of commuters from Kildare, will benefit from the easing of one of the capital’s most notorious traffic bottlenecks. The flyover, completed by Contractors Bam Civil, was finished on budget and ahead of time, and opened by Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe and South Dublin mayor Fintan Warfield.
The 700-metre road will carry 90,000 vehicles every day, and the construction process, which you can see below, used low-emission cement to minimise the flyover’s carbon footprint.
Rest assured there are lots of happy commuters this morning:
me and some of the goys are going to check out the newlands cross flyover later, what a time to be alive #flyover
