Last night TV3's 'The People's debate with Vincent Browne' took us to the Charleville Park Hotel in the constituency of Cork North West.
One man, feeling passionate on the subject of same sex marriage, gave Browne an earful, saying:
"We have family values. No politician or party should be coming out calling for a yes vote. I say shame on you. We want family values. We don’t want to see men and women getting married. And that’s the wholy all of it."
A steady stream of laughter developed from the crowd and Browne, and the man, upon realising his mistake, resumed the mic to clarify his position, almost slipping up again:
"We want to see... we don't want to see two women getting married. We want to respect our family values."
He closes with a rant against the major political parties, calling them "pure corrupt."
It's early days yet, but has the same-sex marriage referendum already found its Úna 'Wife Swapping Sodomites' Bean Mhic Mhathúna?
