After Euro 2012, the Irish team were seen as having some of the best fans in the world (just don’t ask Roy Keane) and now it seems we’ve taken our enthusiasm all the way to ‘Merica.

A group of Irish students on a J1 have been lauded for their passionate displays of support at a baseball game in Newport, Rhode Island.

Having only just landed stateside, the students have already made such a big impression on their local team the Newport Gulls that they’ve appeared on television and been awarded with season tickets for their efforts.

UCC student Conor Lyden shared a video of their star turn pitch-side after Wednesday night’s game.

And while most of the chants will sound familiar to these shores they seem to have gone down a treat with their new neighbours. "They're pretty awesome," said Julia Hall, 24, a die-hard Gulls fan who from the area. "They're such great fans of the Gulls. I don't think it's ever been like this in Newport."
