Boston Police have released photos of the guns and ammunition they seized at the Pokemon World Championships last week.

Officials said they made the discovery after acting on a tip-off from a security firm that came across a violent plot online.

Two men have been arrested.

A spokesperson for the force says members of their intelligence team were given information about threats of violence made over social media to attendees last Thursday.

After launching an investigation, police stopped two men who were trying to enter the event and brought them for questioning.

Detectives were informed that the suspects had driven to the event from Iowa with several firearms in their car, for which they did not have licences.

Officers search the vehicle and found one 12-gauge Remington shotgun, one DPMS Model AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife.

Teenager Kevin Norton (18) and James Stumbo (27), have been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and other firearm related charges.

They are due to appear before Boston Municipal Court this week.

Boston officials praised the private security firm that handed over the information.
