Like the Met in New York before the, London's British Museum is opening its treasure trove of antiquities to anyone with a 3D printer. The museum has just released its first swathe of 3D-printable antiques and artifacts, available to download from the gift shop.
Given the museum's status as one of the world's biggest collections of world antiquities, the hope is that the downloadable collection will grow and grow. For now, there are only 14 schematics available on Sketchfab, including the iconic Hoa Hakananai'a statue from Easter Island above.
Whether or not a 3D printed version of the Elgin Marbles will be enough for Greece remains to be seen, but for history fans everywhere, it brings some of the world's greatest pieces into anyone's hands.
