To mark 25 years of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child on Universal Children's Day November 20th, Newstalk are featuring some of the content of the It's Your Right awareness and advocacy project for children's rights www.itsyourright.ie.

The project was created by Athena Media Productions to mark 10 years of the Office of the Children's Ombudsman in Ireland. It's Your Right aims to give voice to children and young people aged 5-18 across Ireland, giving them a platform to talk about their lives and human rights.

Ellen O'Mahony and Carla Ryan are two budding singer-songwriters from Dunboyne in Co. Meath. At just 17 years old they have been writing songs for two years and have already released an EP 'Floods' on iTunes. Together, they wrote the song 'Shield', which they have very kindly loaned to us to use as a theme song for the 'It's Your Right' campaign, celebrating 10 years of the Ombudsman for Children's Office.

As part of the campaign, the girls have worked with a composer, a children's choir and a group of young string players to further develop and fully produce the song. This is their story, and the making of 'Shield'.

The audio and video content includes a reading of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by children in Irish and English. A free iPad Application based on the project is now available in the iTunes store .

The Ombudsman for Children's Office is an independent statutory body. Its role is to promote and monitor the rights and welfare of children and young people up to 10 years of age. This includes investigating complaints and giving advice. You can contact the Office on www.oco.ie
