Two young children are recovering in hospital after eating suspected cannabis jellies.
The children, aged three and four-years-old, were rushed to hospital after eating the sweets in the Coolock area of Dublin last night.
They are now being cared for at Temple Street Children's Hospital.
No arrests have yet been made; however, a person, not related to the family is helping Gardai with their inquiries.
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency has been notified.
In a statement, Gardaí said cannabis edibles are a “relatively new trend in Ireland” and reminded the public that they are illegal.
Last month, the Food Safety Authority (FASI) issued a warning about the edibles – noting that it knew of at least one incident where a teenager suffered a serious reaction to the sweets and was hospitalised.
Gardaí said the edibles could be confused with regular sweets due to the similarities of their packaging and encouraged anyone who becomes unwell after eating them by mistake to seek medical help.
They warned that, if a child has eaten them, “medical attention should be sought immediately.”
