Fine Gael's Gabrielle McFadden has retained the party's Dáil seat in Longford-Westmeath.
She won the By-election with 20,058 votes, comfortably beating her chief opponent Fianna Fáil's Aengus O'Rourke on 14,581.
The count in Kenagh, Co. Longford continued past midnight. There were nine candidates contesting the By-election including five Independents.
Sinn Féin's Paul Hogan put in a strong performance coming third with 11,254 votes, while it was a disastrous day for the Labour candidate Denis Leonard eliminated on the second count.
The By-election was called after the death of the winning candidate's sister Nicky McFadden from Motor Neurone disease last March.
