Mostly overcast but generally dry at first today - just some light outbreaks of rain, mainly affecting parts of the south and west, as well as some eastern coastal areas.
A heavier spell of wet and rather windy weather will push up from the south during the late morning, gradually spreading northeastwards during the afternoon, though not reaching northern areas till evening.
Whilst the rain will tend to turn more showery later in the day, further spells of heavy rain and onshore winds will affect southern counties through the evening and early night-time hours.
Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees (north to south), in fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds.
There is a Status Yellow rainfall warning in place for Cork, Kerry and Waterford today.
Met Éireann predicts rainfall totals of between 25 and 30mm overnight and during Tuesday.
