Tributes are pouring in this morning for the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who's died at the age of 58.
The country which is still recovering from an acrimonious election in October, has declared a week of national mourning.
Hundreds of Chavez supporters crowded in front of the military hospital where he died, weeping and chanting.
Chavez was president of Venezuela for 14 years and achieved many social changes during this time.
A vote to elect a new leader will be held in 30 days.
Ireland's President, Michael D Higgins, said Mr Chavez had achieved a great deal during his 14 years in office, particularly in the area of social development.
While, the Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said the Venezuelan President was an important figure on the international stage, as well as in his own country.
