While her husband is busy shaking hands and getting down to discussion in County Fermanagh, a certain First Lady of The United States will be visiting Dublin this morning, due to arrive at Dublin Airport just after eleven.

While this will be exciting for those who meet Michelle Obama during her visits to archives in Trinity College Dublin and a play in the Gaiety Theatre, it's causing a bit of a headache for motorists, with traffic distrupution causing delays in the city centre. Here's an overview of what's going on:

  • Kildare Street is closed as Michelle Obama will be staying in The Shelbourne Hotel. It will remain closed until tomorrow, which means diversions are in place.

  • Any Dublin Buses which use Kildare Street will be diverted, joining their usual routes at either Hume Street, St Stephens Green, or Merrion Square East. A total of sixteen routes are affected.
  • There are also parking restrictions in place around at St. Stephen’s Green East and North, and Molesworth Street.
  • Although Kildare Street is the only street to be closed for the duration of Michelle’s visit, a number of rolling closures will take place as she moves around the city. These will be likely at locations surrounding Trinity College Dublin at 12AM, the US Embassy in Ballsbridge at 4:30PM, 5PM near the Gaiety Theatre, and tomorrow (Tuesday) in the vicinity of the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
