Some women aren’t funny and some women comedians aren’t funny, however the exact same thing can be said about their male counterparts.

The stand up comedy marketplace is dominated by men but that is rapidly changing.

Here are some of the best female comedians around and they don’t all just tell jokes about having their period.

Amy Schumer

Amy is quickly becoming the most recognisable stars in the world of comedy.

She is coming off her one-hour stand-up special, Mostly Sex Stuff, which became Comedy Central’s second-highest rated special this year.

She was one of the featured comedians on Comedy Central’s Roast of Roseanne, following her breakout performance on the 2011 Roast of Charlie Sheen.

Emily Heller

Emily Heller is a stand up comic and writer based in San Francisco.

She has appeared on Conan, on the third season of John Oliver’s New York stand up show on Comedy Central and also featured as one of the New Faces at the 2012 Montreal Just For Laughs Festival.

She has been named a ‘Comic to Watch’ by both Variety and Comedy Central. She is the creator and star of the Above Average series The Future. She is currently a writer on the FOX comedy Surviving Jack. The video below is her hilarious take on, wait for it, feminism.

Morgan Murphy One of the original staff writers for Jimmy Fallon’s iteration of Late Night, Murphy went on to Jimmy Kimmel Live before landing her current gig at hit show '2 Broke Girls'.

Katherine Jane Parkinson is an English actress. She is best known for her role as Jen Barber in the Channel 4 comedy series The IT Crowd, for which she received a British Comedy Best TV Actress Award in 2009 and a BAFTA TV Award nomination in 2011.
