The Irish referendum result has had a big impact in Australia
Australia’s opposition party is attempting to capitalise on the momentum of Ireland voting for same-sex marriage, by putting forward a bill to recognise same-sex marriage in Australia.
The leader of the Opposition, Labour Party leader Bill Shorten, will introduce the bill in Australia’s House of Representatives next Monday, the Associated Press reports, The new bill will propose to change federal law ruling that marriage must be only between a man and a woman.
Shorten told reporters that the vote in Ireland had “reignited momentum for the marriage equality debate on the other side of the world in Australia.”

The bug means someone can shut down another iPhone at any timeA glitch in iOS software has been discovered that causes iPhones to shut down when they receive a particular text message.
The bug – which was first discovered by Reddit users – means that a very specific text message, which contains a number of non-Latin characters, will cause the phone to instantly switch off and reboot when it receives the message.

It will come as no surprise to most that Ireland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe for electricity. Recent Eurostat figures show that after taxes, one unit (or KwH) costs 25.4c.
In comparison, the EU average is 20.8c.
But, as anyone who tries to read their own electricity meter knows, these numbers can be quite hard to wrap your head around.
Garda is arrested over leaks made to the media
A garda has been arrested as part of an investigation into the leaking of information to the media.
It follows a probe by senior gardaí into complaints raised by the Roma report by the Children's Ombudsman last July.
That report was launched to examine the garda handling of the cases of two blonde Roma children, who were removed from their families two years ago on suspicion that they had been abducted.
Gardaí seeking third man in relation to fatal Dublin shooting
Gardaí are seeking a third man in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in west Dublin last night.
A man, named locally as Alan O'Neill (35), was shot a number of times at his house on Kiltalown Road in Tallaght at around 10:35pm last night.
He had been seriously injured and was treated at scene by Dublin Fire Brigade.
He was subsequently transferred to Tallaght Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
Two men - aged 28 and 18 - were arrested close by in connection with the incident.
