The victim is thought to have been aged in his 20s and was decapitated after falling in front of a bus during a row at the junction of Nassau Street and Dawson Street at around 5:45pm yesterday.

The man killed was not carrying any identification and his injuries were so catastrophic Gardai are having difficulty establishing who he is. 

Gardai have trawled through CCTV footage of the incident and this afternoon a 28 year-old suspect was arrested.

He is being questioned at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The man can be questioned for up to 24 hours. 

A man in his 30s is due at the Special Criminal Court this evening charged in connection with the murder of prominent drug dealer, Eamon Kelly. 

The suspect in his 30s was arrested at the scene of the shooting in Killester on Tuesday.

Kelly was shot three times in the chest outside his home.

A special sitting of the three-judge court will convene at the Criminal Courts of Justice this evening.

London's King Edward VII hospital which recently treated Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has confirmed the death of one of its nursing staff who responded to a prank telephone call. 

In a statement the hospital says its deeply saddened by the loss of Jacintha Saldanha who fell victim to the call made by two Australian DJ's posing as the Queen and Prince Charles. 

A police investigation is underway but its understood she died by suicide. 

The hospital has described her a " much loved and valued colleague."

The Taoiseach and Tánaiste remain defiant this evening that the €325 cut to the respite care grant will not be reversed.

Earlier today more than one hundred carers protested outside the Dáil and delivered a letter to the Social Protection Minister. 

The coalition though remains defiant on the issue.

The Taoiseach would not take questions but in a speech insisted there would not be a climb-down.

"The decisions have been discussed, debated and made by government - and will be now carried through" he said.

The Chinese are planning to move mountains, literally.

According to one of the country's biggest construction firms, 700 mountains will be flattened at a cost equivalent to almost €3 billion in order to make way for the new city.

Five hundred square miles of land in the Lanzhou New Area, 600 miles southwest of Beijing are to be redeveloped. 

Local government officials claim it will increase the Gross Domestic Product in the area to €30 billion in the next 17.
