Dogs Trust Ireland has launched details of their nationwide microchipping awareness campaign.

It will coincide with new Government legislation which will come into effect from this September, meaning all puppies must be microchipped and registered on an approved database before they are moved from their birth home.

Adult dogs will have until March 31st 2016 to be microchipped - and owners must obtain a certificate to prove the dog has been chipped.

A father and son rescued after 28 hours trapped in a cave in Co Clare have admitted they did not prepare properly in advance.

Patrick Troy and his son Finn spent Saturday night underground after they went caving in Pollnagollum in north Clare.

Despite being an experienced caver, Patrick says he did not adhere to the basics and he got lost.
