Three people have been killed in two separate road crashes in Cork and Dublin overnight.
A man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s died when the car they were travelling in left the road and struck a ditch at Ballinahina, White's Cross just outside Cork City at around 12.30 this morning.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were removed to Cork University Hospital where post-mortem examinations will be carried out later today.
Investigating officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Mayfield Garda Station.
Elsewhere in Dublin, a male pedestrian in his late 40s was killed when he was hit by a car on North Street in Swords at around ten past three this morning.
The driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene and Gardaí are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this hit and run incident to contact Swords Garda Station.
