Three more men have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee.

The men, aged 36, 39 and 45 were arrested in Derry this morning under Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Act.

They have been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast for questioning.

Ms McKee was shot dead as she observed rioting in the Creggan area of Derry in April 2019.

She was standing near a police vehicle when she was hit by a bullet fired toward officers by a masked gunman.

The attack was claimed by the New IRA, which said Ms McKee was caught in the line of fire.

Three men have already been charged with her murder.

33-year-old Geroid Cavanagh of Elmwood Terrace in Derry and 21-year-old Jordan Devine of Synge Court in Derry were charged in court two weeks ago.

They are accused of being with the gunman who fired the shot on the night she was killed.

Meanwhile, 53-year-old Paul McIntyre from Kinnego Park in Derry, was charged with Ms McKee's murder in February 2020.

He is alleged to have committed a joint enterprise with an unknown gunman - by picking up the casings of the bullets used to kill Ms McKee.

Five other people have been charged with rioting and associated offences.
