In the past 18 months there has been a sharp rise in the number of humanitarian emergencies across the world including the Ebola crisis, the earthquake in Nepal and the ongoing violence in Syria.
A new survey released to mark World Humanitarian Day shows that with 60-million people now displaced 83 per-cent of Irish people believe media coverage is vital in making the public aware of these tragedies.
The survey, conducted by Oxfam Ireland among 1-thousand people, also shows that 70 per-cent of Irish people say that they are proud of the country's role in global relief efforts.
