Christmas is nearly upon us and that means large empty times of the day where you will have to put up with family members for far longer than is ever acceptable at other points during the year.

Now, the TV can be great but not always reliable. You know what is there? Netflix.

1. A Very Murray Christmas

Beloved actor and comedian Bill Murray brings an extra-special dose of holiday cheer to Netflix with the premiere of an all-star musically-driven holiday special,A Very Murray Christmas.

The assortment of top-notch performers and guest stars includes George Clooney, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Paul Shaffer, Michael Cera, Rashida Jones, Maya Rudolph, Jenny Lewis, Julie White, the band Phoenix, Miley Cyrus, among others.

2. Jingle All The Way

We can't stress this enough, this is the Christmas gem you never thought you needed. 

Arnie plays a panicked dad who is desperately looking for a Turbo Man doll for his son for Christmas. Genius.

3. The Santa Clause

The moral of this particular story would be never kill Santa.

By accidentally killing Father Christmas, Scott Calvin discovers a magical transformation is happening.

4. Home Alone 1, 2 & 3

Home Alone is the Christmas film to end all Christmas films. If you haven't seen it (welcome back from space), the film revolves around a young Kevin who gets left behind after his family leave for the holidays.

You know the story. A mean old man is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve to help him see the error of his ways and where his life will end up. 

He can change all that. Merry Christmas, one and all!

6. It's a Wonderful Life

Ever wonder what life would have been like if you never existed?

Well, George Bailey did and it wasn't really that great.

7. Scrooged

You've got the original tale in the form of A Christmas Carol but this "modern" take on the original is also a lot of fun.

Bill Murray plays a cynical TV executive who is visited by three spirits at Christmas to give him a look at his real life.

8. Black Christmas

In the mood for horror at Christmas? Of course you are.

On Christmas Eve, an escaped maniac returns to his childhood home which is now a sorority house and begins to kill the sisters off one by one.

9. The Nightmare Before Christmas

It's not actually going to hit Netflix until the first of January but get in the mood for the singalong. 

Here comes Halloween! (It'll make sense when you watch it)
