Speaking at the Fianna Fáil annual commemoration of the 1916 Rising at Arbour Hill, Deputy Martin has accused Mr Adams of attempting to distort history.

Meanwhile the great grandson of one of the leaders of the Rising says he's concerned the centenary commemorations are turning into political football.

Hundreds feared dead after migrant ship sinks in Mediterranean

Italy's Prime Minister has called on European leaders to hold an emergency meeting - after another migrant ship sank in the Mediterranean.

Up to 650 people are feared dead after their boat capsized between Libya and the Italian island of Lampedusa.

28 have been rescued and more than 20 bodies have been recovered from the Mediterranean Sea.

Clarkson reveals cancer scare shortly before attack on producer

Jeremy Clarkson has said he was told he "probably" had cancer two days before he launched an unprovoked attack on Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon - although he has since received the all-clear.

And the 55-year-old revealed he became so focused on his work following the break-up of his marriage and the death of his mother that he was unable to concentrate on anything else.

Irish cancer survival rates among Europe's lowest

A new global report shows that cancer survival rates in Ireland are among the lowest in Europe.

It shows that just 56 per cent of women in Ireland live beyond five years after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, compared to 73 per cent in Iceland.

Survival rates for Irish people with ovarian, breast and rectal cancer were also significantly lower than the European average.

Kim Jong-Un climbs North Korea's highest mountain, state media reports

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has climbed the country's highest mountain, state-run media has reported.

Photos were released of the smiling and windswept 32-year-old standing on snow-covered ground at the top of Mount Paektu, with the sun rising behind him.

One image shows dozens of troops cheering deliriously as the leader greets them at the peak.
