Voting is already underway in the referendums on the islands off the west coast.
Turnout is said to be low so far, but is likely to pick up at tea-time.
On Inishbofin, only six out of an electorate of 110 had voted by lunchtime.
On Inis Mór, the largest of the three Aran islands, voter turnout was also slow by lunchtime - just 26 people had voted at the polling station at Kilronan out of a registered list of 344.
Meanwhile, the polling station located at Old Quarter on the island reported a turnout of 18 people out of 313 registered by the afternoon.
On Inis Meáin, just 8 people had voted by lunchtime out of a list of 154.
On the smallest Aran island of Inis Oirr, 18 had voted out of a registered list of 207.
Polling stations on the islands will remain open until 10 tonight and the rest of the county will go to the polls tomorrow.
