'How to speak Dublin' - An educational guide to mastering the Dublin dialect

Ireland’s own Hiberno-English gives the English language spoken in the country its own broad set of nuances to differentiate it from the Queen's English.

But the country’s many sub-dialects are another beast entirely. And sometimes the capital’s unique command of the English language is a vernacular all its own.

Comedy trio Foil Arms and Hog have produced a sketch that excellently portrays the difficulties in educating non-Dubs on the language of the city, with everything from the addition of an ‘O’ to names, to the accurate pronunciation of “I will in me bleedin’ hole”, on to the difference between ‘yiz’ and ‘dem lot’.

Tickets for Adele's two Dublin concerts have sold out in just three minutes.

They went on sale at 9 O'clock this morning, and are the singer's first gigs in four years

The singer will perform in the 3 Arena for two nights on the 4th and 5th of March, and for two nights in Belfast on the 29th February and the 1st of March.

She will also play a number of dates in the UK and Europe.

Fine Gael TDs split on abortion, while Fianna Fáil oppose repeal of 8th

A survey by Newstalk has found a split among Fine Gael TDs on repealing the Eighth Amendment, while there is a total rejection of the idea in Fianna Fáil.

As part of the ‘Ireland’s Abortion Journey’ series on The Pat Kenny Show, Newstalk undertook an anonymous survey of TDs from both of the traditionally big parties - and the results show that while the issue could prove divisive in Fine Gael, there is unanimous opposition to a repeal in Fianna Fáil.

Some TDs we spoke to, from both parties, told us they are against it on personal grounds, while some fear it will lose votes. Others also mentioned a fear of being on the receiving end of personal abuse for taking a pro-repeal stand. For many, the real issue was what comes next – with several TDs saying are reluctant to take a definitive stand on the issue until a coherent answer is available on what comes after repeal.

Department of Finance "flying blind" and still unsure why Ireland's tax take is so high

The Secretary General of the Department of Finance, Derek Moran, has acknowledged the Department does not have any “real time” information about the reasons for the recent massive surge in corporation tax revenue.

"Consequently, the Department is flying blind on that one," he told the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.

These comments come days after it was confirmed that the exchequer tax take so far this year is €3bn more than it was expected to be.

In isolation, corporation tax was €2.3bn more than expected - it made up €6.3bn of the overall €42bn that was taken in during 2015.

5,000 without power across Ireland as Storm Desmond hits

Met Eireann has issued a number of severe weather warnings - including it's highest alert 'Red' - for parts of the country.

'Storm Desmond' is expected to bring more than 70 millimetres of rain to parts of Connacht, Donegal, Clare and Kerry overnight and into tomorrow.

Heavy rain is also expected in Cavan, Clare, Cork and Limerick, with strong winds in parts too.

AA Roadwatch is advising there are delays and cancellations affecting flights heading into and out of Dublin Airport, Cork Airport, Shannon Airport and Farranfore Airport.
