Young man finds €100,000 floating down a river

Police in Austria are baffled over how €100,000 in loose banknotes came to be floating down the river Danube.

A young man spotted the cash – in €500 and €100 denominations – and dived into the river to retrieve it, with onlookers thinking he was attempting to commit suicide, Oesterreich newspaper reports, according to Sky News.

Bystanders, concerned for the man’s safety, called the police who arrived at the scene as the man was retrieving the loose notes.

EPSN pundit Chael Sonnen believes that in the build up to UFC 194, neither Conor McGregor nor Jose Aldo really believe that they can win the fight.

Speaking to the Submission Radio podcast, Chael Sonnen covered a number of topics including Ronda Rousey's defeat, and doping in the sport, before eventually turning his attention to UFC 194 as Mcgregor and Aldo get set to go head to head.

When asked whether he saw any parallels with the mind games he used in the build up to his own fight against Anderson Silva and the way that McGregor is getting into Aldo's head, Sonnen stated that he believes that he's never seen a fight like this in the UFC for several reasons. 

Dungarvan residents voice concern over plans to resettle refugees in local hotel

Ireland needs to live up to its commitments to provide a safe haven for refugees, according to a group of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

They say the European Union has been taking too long to act on commitments to resettle thousands of refugees, and has only settled 200 of the 160,000 agreed upon so far.

The group says we should invite 22,000 refugees to come here, far more than the 4,000 the government has currently committed to resettling.

The group has also warned that there will be no military solution to the wars in the Middle East, less than a week after the UK started bombing Islamic State targets in Syria.

A Monaghan Councillor recorded asking an undercover reporter for a £10,000 "sweetener" claims that he was fully aware of the set-up, but played along anyway.

The recording was released ahead of tonight's episode of RTE Investigates, which examines the undeclared business interests of Irish politicians.

Journalist trawled through records of every Irish politicians - of which there are over 1,000 - noting the discrepancies between interests which had been declared to the Oireachteas and those which appeared on other public records.

Enda Kenny has also defended the government's history of spending on flood defences.

They say that they've spent €400m on flood defences since 1995.

However work on promised flood defences for Bandon and Crossmolina are not due to start until mid 2016 and 2017 respectively, despite years of floods in the West Cork town in particular.
