Danny O’Reilly - also simply known as ‘Danny from the Coronas’ has expressed no desire to finish performing, with a new album coming soon.

Speaking to The Anton Savage Show today, Danny said the band is as dedicated as ever to performing.

“We're still addicted to it,” he said. “After that couple of years hiatus that we won't speak of... we appreciate it even more now.

“We do great numbers in Australia and in the big cities in America, but there's some cities maybe in Europe or whatever places with such smaller rooms.

“We're setting up the stage and I'm playing 200 people or whatever – but we love it.”

“We love every aspect of it. We love being together on the road - it's addictive and I think we would miss it.”

Eighth Coronas album

The Coronas’ latest single ‘Speak Up’ is out now, with their eighth studio album coming out this autumn.

Danny said the fear of releasing new music is still alive and well for the established band.

“Even [after] eight albums, you still have that thing on release week where you’re just like, yeah, we like this – but are people going to be like ‘What the hell is this?’,” he said.

He said the newest single and upcoming album is based a lot on his own personal struggles – including a pandemic with a very unfortunate name for the Coronas.

“Everyone is still going through just random things in their lives, and [I thought] I might as well just write about what I'm going through and I'm sure people who are going through similar stuff,” he said.

“We didn't build up a huge like back catalogue of music that we've been waiting for – this album was written last year in between periods of touring.

“I find as I get older, definitely I sort of need to just be a little bit disciplined and put myself in a space where I can be creative.

“It's not necessarily a guarantee that I'll write good or anything, but I find I do need to be disciplined.”

The Coronas will next perform at the Marquee in County Cork on May 24th before heading to Fairview Park on June 15th.
