630 cyclists were injured on our roads in 2012, marking a ten-year high.
A new report from the Road Safety Authority shows the number of cyclists injured increased by 59% from 2011 to 2012.
Just over half - 335 cyclists - were injured in Dublin, while 8 out of 10 injuries happened in built up areas rather than rural areas.
Three quarters of them were men, while more than half were aged between 25 and 49.
Evening and rush hour times are unsurprisingly the most dangerous times for cyclists.
It is also reported that there was 200% increase in spinal trauma from cycling injuries in the National Spinal Centre.
Moyagh Murdock, chief executive of the RSA, commenting on the report said that "city cyclists, especially in Dublin, need to be extra vigilant. There also needs to be greater implementation of lower speed limits, by Local Authorities, particularly in these urban areas that are rich in vulnerable road users.”
