An 18-year-old man was banned from driving for five months for parking across two disabled car park spaces while he went to the cinema.
John McNamara of Jamesboro, Limerick, received the sentence after he pleaded guilty to the offence at Ennis's Parnell Street car park in January.
McNamara's solicitor argued that although the offence was "absolutely unforgivable", Mr McNamara thought he could park there as it was evening time – and that, rather than deliberately parking in two disabled spots, he had attempted to park in one and accidentally strayed into another.
Judge Durcan, who heard the case said: “In other words, he prevents two potential disabled patrons attending the cinema in two parking bays which are located close to the cinema. The arrogance, the ignorance, the selfishness and total disregard for others is breathtaking.”
The judge imposed a driving ban and €500 fine.
