A young mother has admitted getting into a stolen Eircom van that went on a high-speed rampage through Dublin city in February.

Jamie Lee Radcliffe of Dromcairn Drive in Tallaght was arrested after the van crashed into a number of cars while being chased by gardaí.

The van was stolen from George's Street at around 10pm on February 19th, and was driven through the city at high speed - before eventually coming to a stop in Ranelagh after smashing into five cars and losing a wheel.

It is alleged the van mounted a footpath, drove at speed on the wrong side of the road and rammed a garda patrol van as it was being chased.

A number of people, including the alleged driver, have already been charged.

Today, Ms Radcliffe (18) appeared in court where she admitted getting into the van in the Temple Bar area, where she had been socialising with friends.

She said she only realised something was wrong when she heard sirens and claims she begged the driver to stop.

She is due to be sentenced in December.
