The Tanaiste says the coalition is committed to completing the task of the government, despite the political turmoil that has emerged from the election results.
Eamon Gilmore who resigned as Labour leader yesterday was speaking in Brussels at a meeting of the European Socialists this afternoon.
He is determined that the plan for the government going forward should be to ensure that all people benefit from any new economic growth.
But he has also admitted that both parties feel bruised from the fallout from the elections.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny is also attending the EPP summit, along with the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and the European Commission President Jose-Manuel Barroso.
The discussions are expected to focus on the European election results.
It comes as the British Prime Minister David Cameron says he wants European Union leaders to reform the organisation after Eurosceptic parties enjoyed success in the election.
