The Taoiseach says he does not want independents propping up the next Government like a wobbly leg on a three-legged stool.

Enda Kenny says the only proposition he has interested in is a re-election of the Coalition.

He was addressing a rally in Tipperary last night, and says he wants to put together a Government that is 'clear and strong':

The comments have been criticised by Shane Ross of the Independent Alliance, who claims the Taoiseach may yet eat his words.

The leaders of the main political parties are this morning preparing for the first weekend of campaigning ahead of the election on February 26th.

Enda Kenny will canvas around Dublin this morning, where Sinn Féin also launch a childcare policy.

Meanwhile, Labour’s Joan Burton campaigns around Kildare and Laois, while Fianna Fáil’s Micheal Martin spends the day in Tipperary.

Speaking yesterday, the Tánaiste said it is time for Labour candidates to 'get tough' in this election campaign.

Joan Burton's party are at just 7% support according to the latest opinion poll.

They officially launched their election campaign yesterday, selling themselves as the party that can offer continued stability.
