Taoiseach criticises Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin while facing questions on health system

The Taoiseach has rounded on Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin in the Dáil this afternoon as he faced questions on the health system.

Enda Kenny says Fianna Fáil is the party of no health policy, while Sinn Féin is the one of no faith because Gerry Adams went abroad for his own treatment.

The Opposition have criticised the coalition for the number of people on trolleys and the number of older people not getting the care they need.

But Enda Kenny says Minister Leo Varadkar is doing everything he can to manage this crisis, and that the he has 'full support':

Earlier, the Health Minister said he hopes to have an outline cost for individuals for universal insurance in April.

Leo Varadkar told the Dáil he expects to have a report on how to get to universal healthcare by then.

He has reiterated his plan to proceed with free GP care for under 6s and older people this year, and to proceed immediately to negotiations for other school children and adults with chronic diseases.

Minister Varadkar says he hopes to outline in the coming months the cost of universal health care for everyone:
