The acting Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, has been accused of trying to bury the latest report from the inquiry into SiteServ.

Social Democrat TD Catherine Murphy says the interim report from the Cregan Commission was released to coincide with the breaking news that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael had done a deal on a minority government.

The report says the inquiry into the sale of SiteServ has asked a company owned by Denis O'Brien to waive confidentiality on up to 50,000 pages of documents.

The Cregan Commission has found that while SiteServ itself has waived confidentiality over some of its banking arrangements with IBRC, its subsidiaries have not.

Those subsidiaries were sold to Denis O'Brien's Millington firm, which has now been asked to waive its right of confidentiality on those documents.

The issues were highlighted in the Commission's second interim report, published by the Department of the Taoiseach last night.

Catherine Murphy is concerned that the government hasn't brought in legislation needed to help the commission do its work.

“The expectation was that some of that legislation would be commenced pretty soon, that hasn't happened,” the Kildare North TD said.

“The judge has been working away and you can see it in the report, at doing what he can do, but he's being prevented from bringing it to a point where you get a conclusion unless this legislation is put in place.”

The acting Taoiseach has extended the Commission's deadline until the end of June.
