Every year the various coffee chains release a Christmas-themed cup to mark the holiday season, but this year's edition seems to be causing quite a stir.
The design is plain red, starting with a "bright poppy color on top that shades into a darker cranberry below".

An apparently neutral choice from the company, it has managed to rile a number of people up, as they believe that they are offensive because they don't bear any of the usual symbols of Christmas.
Breitbart ran a piece in which they claimed it was a "war on Christmas" from the company, and that it was "emblematic of the Christian culture cleansing of the West".
As a result, a number of people on social media have stated that they will be boycotting the company from now on.
Since you're running away from Christianity, I'm running from you! Just exercising my financial choice https://t.co/DsieOuz8eA #ccot #tcot

Still, others have different ideas on how to deal with the situation. For example, evangelist and social media personality Joshua Feuerstein posted a video to his Facebook page encouraging people to make a statement by not boycotting the company and instead ordering their coffee as usual, but saying their name is Merry Christmas in order to get the employees to write it on the cup.
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
Starbucks REMOVED CHRISTMAS from their cups because they hate Jesus ... SO I PRANKED THEM ... and they HATE IT!!!! #shareUse #MERRYCHRISTMASSTARBUCKSFollow --> Joshua Feuerstein

The campaign has been garnering a lot of comments online, including from those who think that it might not be the most important thing in the world.
Because nothing should say "Jesus" like a soy milk decaffeinated cappuccino in a Santa cup. #MerryChristmasStarbucks

If you want to have Jesus on your coffee cup, give your hot drink to a homeless person & share your story with them #merrychristmasstarbucks

If you're Christian & upset over Starbucks cups, your priorities are out of whack and you don't have enough to do #MerryChristmasStarbucks

While it's no surprise that a number of people on the internet have gotten angry and offended over something, it's perhaps fair to say that they've managed to create a storm out of a coffee cup.
