The Road Safety Authority is looking at new ways of dealing with speeding drivers, including a training course for first time offenders.
The Irish Times reports that the RSA is consulting experts in the UK, where speeding drivers are ordered to go to 'awareness' classes.
The RSA also said that offending drivers who take the courses would have to pay for it as part of their penalty.
