You might not have seen it coming, but the latest well-meaning social media is the tampon selfie.
As part of the #JustATampon campaign launched by Plan UK to promote International Tampon Alert Day, people have been sharing photos of themselves posing with tampons - all to remove the taboo around talking about menstruation.
The 'disgust' commonly experienced around the topic is all part of a greater system of gender inequality.
“The stigma and embarrassment attached to women’s periods contributes to gender inequality worldwide," Plan UK states.
“Because it’s just a tampon - there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, but just a tampon can change women’s lives.”
Britons sharing photos are encouraging friends to text TAMPON to 70007 to donate £3 to Plan UK.
