Finally, after weeks of teasers, Skoda has premiered the new Superb. Chaka Khan sang in the new model at an event in Prague yesterday. We’re told that the incoming model will offer new assistance systems for safety, generous dimensions and more-powerful EU6 engines.

The manufacturer tells us that this is their “best model ever”, which is a big claim. The car is certainly more stylish than before with some very pronounced horizontal lines surrounding the vehicle. The roofline is more sloped than before, but according to Skoda this won’t reduce headroom. The shape of the rear is more in context with the car than before too.

According to the manufacturer the new engines of the Superb are more efficient than before. Skoda claims that the new Superb Greenline will consume just 3.7l/100km and emit as little as 95g/km of CO2. Part of the reason for this 30% drop in fuel consumption is due to the car being 75kg lighter and improvements were made to aerodynamics of the vehicle.

The Superb will come with direct-injection turbocharged engines based on MQB technology (five TSI petrol, three TDI common-rail diesel).

As standard there will be start/stop technology and brake energy recovery. Petrol engines will offer between 125hp and 280hp, whereas diesel engines will offer between 120hp and 190hp. Four engines are available with all-wheel drive based on the Haldex 5 clutch.
