SIPTU has refuted claims that Luas drivers have asked tram operator Transdev to retable a pay deal which they previously rejected at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

A long running dispute between workers and the tram operator Transdev shows no signs of abating with another day of strike action set to go ahead on Wednesday.

Nine days of industrial action has seen Transdev offer a 13% increase spread over five years. The driver’s initial claim was for over 50% for some of the workers.

It was reported in Sunday newspapers that SIPTU has asked the company to retable offers of 18% which the drivers previously rejected at the WRC.

However the union's divisional organiser Owen Reidy says the reports are unfounded:

“Reports that drivers are looking for the WRC proposals or less is completely erroneous and not factual at all.

“We met with the drivers on Thursday night. They unanamously pledged their support to their elected representatives and the union campaign to improve their pay.

“Where drivers are at is about 22.5% over a five year period but the reports in some of the Sunday papers today are completely wrong and incorrect.”

As well as Wednesday further strikes are planned for 4 May, 13 May, 20 May, 26-27 May.
