SIPTU is calling for compulsory training for cash-in-transit workers in a bid to prevent and help them deal with tiger kidnappings.
The call follows an incident in Dublin last week, in which a family of three went through a 13-hour long ordeal.
A cash in transit worker was forced to hand over €200,000 to those behind the attack.
The worker's partner and daughter were held captive tied up in a van, which was driven around for several hours.
The incident ended in Meath, after the family were kidnapped at their home in Artane.
Gardaí have appealed for any information in connection with the incident.
SIPTU's Jack O'Connor says more can be done to help workers prepare for situations like these.
