Sinn Féin is calling on people to join the Right2Water demonstration in Dublin on the 29th of August.

The opposition party wants the Government to abolish the water charges as part of the next budget.

Sinn Féin says the water charges are unfair as they do not take into account people's ability to pay.

Earlier this year the Taoiseach said the upcoming budget will help hard-pressed middle earners.

However Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane says families and workers on low incomes deserve to get something back:

The EU's statistics agency suggested last month that Irish Water would not pass its so-called 'market test', even if every household was paying its water charges.

It is claimed that Irish Water is not receiving 50% of its income from the private sector, and that this would be the case even if every bill was being paid.

It is also claimed that the Government has too much control over the pricing structure of Irish Water.

The Right2Water campaign has called on the Government to prove it is against the privatisation of the public water supply by calling a referendum.
