The High Court has approved an €8.5m final settlement for a boy (12), who suffered catastrophic birth injuries at the Coombe Hospital.

Eoin Dunne from Malahide in Dublin has dyskinetic cerebral palsy, is wheelchair dependant and can not communicate verbally.

Two years ago the hospital was found liable for his injuries, and he received an interim compensation payment of €2.9m.

The court heard his condition may have been caused by an eight minute resuscitation delay.

Speaking after today's settlement, Eoin's mother Dr Fiona Murphy said she was relieved it is now over.
