Ryanair is urging the government to “be sensible” - and allow Aer Lingus to find a ‘viable future’ under a new parent.

The comments come after the UK Court of Appeal ruled that Ryanair must reduce its share in the airline from 29% to 5%.

It also comes ahead of IAG chief Willie Walsh’s appearance at the Transport Committee.

Ryanair says it will appeal the court ruling, and says it will “consider” any offer for its Aer Lingus stake.

Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Jacobs says the government should 'do the sensible thing' - and not let politics get in the way of good business:

The Chief Executive of IAG is appearing before the Dáil's Transport Committee today to discuss his company's plans to buy Aer Lingus.

The International Airlines Group boss is spending two days in Dublin trying to convince the government to accept the offer for the State's 25% of the former national flag carrier.

Willie Walsh held a meeting with the Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe yesterday to outline his plans.
