An Irish dance show touring in Europe later this year will no longer be billed as a 'Riverdance Tribute' act.

Kerry music promoter Michael Carr and his company Ceol Chiarrai Teoranta agreed to change the name after he was brought to court by Moya Doherty and John McColgan's Riverdance Ltd. and Abhann Productions.

Riverdance lawyers claim Michael Carr took a gamble on staging ‘fake Riverdance' shows for a tour of Russia and the Balkans later this year and was found out.

The music promoter denies this and says while Russian associates engaged in misleading advertising without his approval, it was always his intention that the show would be a Riverdance Tribute.

He believes that is within his rights but the argument is on hold until a future court hearing in a case that may have implications for other tribute acts.

In the meantime Michael Carr has consented to court orders directing him not to pass-off his production as Riverdance or to infringe any of the intellectual property associated with the show.

The Riverdance success story is now 20 years old with audited accounts for 2010 and 2011 showing combined profits of over €7 million.
