Reuters is reporting two Irish citizens connected to ISIS are to be deported from Turkey in the coming days.

Turkey is beginning the repatriation of ISIS detainees and militants including many from European countries.

The first deportations began today with an American and a German.

Two Irish nationals are being processed, but their identities are as yet unknown.

One is believed to be Dundalk woman Lisa Smith.

A Defence Forces team was recently sent to the region in a bid to bring Smith and her young daughter home.

The second person may be the wife of a naturalised Irish citizen, who Smith shared a tent with in an IS camp. She has a son with an Irish passport.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of the case, but that it doesn't comment on ongoing consular cases.

Turkey has been critical of countries not acting quickly enough to repatriate citizens who left to fight for ISIS, and began deportations today.
